There really is no formula that will magically correct your resume to do the job it is intended to do. To have a resume that will brand and market you towards your ideal job, you must invest time and work, in addition to having the knowledge and strategies required.

Below are the top 10 issues I see on resumes again and again. A basic and quickly written resume draft should have the following bullets in place, so that the document can at least be called a resume.

1. resume title

2. qualifications summary rather than an objective statement 

3. paragraphs containing less than five lines at a time (3 lines would be ideal)

4. bullet points, as opposed to paragraphs in the experience section

5. achievements, as opposed to responsibilities

6. quantifiable data (believe me, 99.9% of job responsibilities can be quantified. You do not have to work in sales to quantify data)

7. visual appeal or attraction, as opposed to a plan black and white document (first impression truly does matter)

8. 3 pages or less in length (10 years or less = 1 page; 11-20 years = 2 pages; and 21+ years equals 3 pages)

9. proper and consistent formatting

10. City, state, and zip code (exclude exact address for security purposes)

These points serve as the basics and premises of a resume; it will probably not market you for your ideal job, but it will improve its structure.
