Are you open to any opportunity?
If you answered yes, then that is the first strategy you should change to land your next job sooner. If you are the type of person who says they are open to any opportunity, you have basically said nothing, leaving the other person, possibly a recruiter, clueless as to what position you are interested in.
Wondering why recruiters are not following-up with you? They might just not know what you want. They have a job to do; to send their clients qualified candidates.
Job searching can be extensive and exasperating. At some point, many job seekers just want to work at any job. Consequently, they submit their resumes to any and all job advertisements.
Have you ever wondered why you have not received many calls for interviews?
Recruiters and employers have specific positions available and are searching for people that fall within the areas they are seeking. They are searching for kings and queens, not for jacks of all trades. If your background completely differs from their open positions, then they will more than likely not contact you.
Instead of focusing on any and all job advertisements, focus on the many jobs available under your particular set of skills and experience. Stop wasting your time going after jobs you are not interested in. Stop spending time on jobs you are not qualified for yet.
Take these two steps right now.
- Go on a job search site, such as Indeed.com and search for the top 3 positions you can see yourself in for at least the next two years.
- Read the requirements for the position and compare them to your resume.
Is your resume presenting you as a king or a queen in an appealing and strategic way? If not, then you might need a new professional resume and I would be more than happy to assist and guide you in this process.
