Age discrimination hinders job candidates from some positions. As unjust as it might be, employers have reasons for having this mindset, such as assuming the candidate is not up to par with technology and has difficulties following the leadership of a younger manager.

The following tips are basic strategies you can apply on your resume to combat some age biases employers have.

• Apply modern touches on your resume by using a format design that differs from the traditional resume written decades ago.

• Write “more than 15 years of experience,” rather than “30 years of experience.” Although you might have 30 years of work experience, stating this number on your resume will remind employers you are probably older than some of the other qualified candidates.

• Exclude graduation years. Your 20 or 30 years of work experience weighs more than the Bachelor’s degree you earned in the 1980’s. Courses are taught differently and with newer technologies. Your graduation year only triggers the thought of a professional with older methods, rather than one with fresh and modern ideas and perspectives.
