The content below takes it a step further into a set of common words people use incorrectly. This set of incorrect words are so popularly used that it deserves its own blog.
An abundance of people believe “off of” is proper english. News reporters and many other professionals use these words consecutively. For instance, it is incorrect to say,” Based ‘off of’ the idea that…” It is correct to say “Based ‘off’ the idea that…”
Such english rules are called idiomatic versus unidiomatic. Precisely, because the correct form (idiomatic) does not have a grammatical explanation to support its logic. I believe every language has ways of using certain words they see as proper without grammatical rules to support it.
