Many professionals say finding a good job starts with your personal brand. While I agree with that idea, I believe that finding a good job actually starts with you. For instance, some people search for jobs that are above or below their level of experience. This often happens because the person has not taken the time to assess and plan for specific positions and industries to target.
If you are in the “job seeking” or “career transitioning” phase, you probably believe the more open you portray yourselves to employers, the more opportunities you will receive. I tend to mention this in many of my blogs, such as “Are You a King, Queen, or a Jack of all Trades?”, because it is not true and it is less likely to lead you to your ideal position.
I have the pleasure of meeting extraordinary people with amazing qualifications, yet struggling to find their ideal job and wondering why employers are not reaching out to them. Usually, when I am approached by someone, that person has already gone through the silence and rejection of the job search process. Once they are ready to learn their true value and asset, they can start to market themselves to employers. This way, they can portray a high value similar to the salary they are pursuing. Now the idea of finding a good job through your personal brand really starts.
First, there has to be a shift in mindset and this transition will occur as you work with a professional resume writer. Usually, my resume writing process entails several question and answer sessions that leads to creative ideas and strategies. This is where some of my clients go through an awakening process and realize the value and qualifications they have and how to present themselves before their target employers.
It truly is difficult and challenging to go through this process alone. The guidance and assistance of a personal branding specialist will serve as a reality check, as you pursue your ideal positions and target salary.
I truly recommend researching before seeking the guidance of a professional resume writer. When you contact a few, you should note whether they ask questions before providing you with a service fee. Resume writers should ask a few preliminary questions to have an idea of your interests, your goals, and your ideal objectives. Some resume writers do not ask questions and just quote you right off the bat! As a customer, that would tell me a lot about the resume writer’s true interest, the quality of the service I will receive, and the potential of my future brand!
