Why I Do Not Provide Resume Critiques | Organic Resume Creations

Many resume writers offer potential clients a “free” and “personalized” resume critique. It is almost like their hook, line, and sinker tactic. When the potential customer receives their “free personalized” resume critique, they think, “WOW! They are right! My resume is really bad. I better have them write my resume.”

But, do you really think your critique is personalized, because it has two or three lines from your resume included in the review?

Do you really think this person took 30 to 60 minutes out of their schedule to write a critique just for you? …for free?

Can you imagine if they did this for every potential customer who would like a resume critique?

So, why does this “free resume” strategy work?

Well, because the majority of resumes that are not professionally written look alike and have most of the same basic mistakes, such as:

no resume title
an objective statement instead of a qualifications summary
paragraphs containing more than five lines at a time
no bullet points
no achievements
no quantifiable data
job descriptions in paragraph form
fully black and white with no visual appeal or attraction
more than three pages long!
improper and inconsistent formatting

I do not use an automated computer system, which is why I do not usually provide resume critiques, like the majority of resume writers do. Instead, I invite people to view the resume samples on my website.

So, how would you know if your resume is not benefiting you?

Personally, I do not think someone needs a resume writer to tell them their resume is poorly written and ineffective. If you are receiving calls from jobs not even remotely close to your target jobs, jobs that fall under your qualifications, or you are not receiving any time or attention, then that should enough to tell you your resume is not branding you properly for your ideal position.
